The 101 dalmatians dodie smith7/5/2023 ![]() ![]() In this original rendition, she owns a white persian who has had multiple litters with "alley cats" and since the kittens weren't valuable pure-breds, they were taken away from their poor mother and drowned. Cruella was already a cold-hearted animal murderer long before the dalmatians were involved. The first is that there is mention of drowning kittens. I would have given this story a perfect score if not for two points, which parents should consider before letting their youngest children listen to it. ![]() The characters all came to life wonderfully, including the handful of puppies that were actually named (It would be impossible to name them all in one book, of course). His voice lent just the sort of charm that this story deserved. Though Perdita is also in the story and becomes part of the family quickly - 15 puppies is a lot for one mother, after all!). Pongo's wife in the book is named Misses. If you love (or even like) the Disney movie, you need to read this original telling of Pongo and Missis's adventures through England to find and rescue their kidnapped puppies (That's right. This lovely classic is a charming addition to any library. ![]()

The book talks about the degree to which the company was helped by the Marwari community of traders and bankers, especially the Jagat Seths who were Oswal Jain bankers from Jodhpur state,” adds Dalrymple. The degree to which it was facilitated by the Indian financial class, especially the Marwari bankers of Calcutta and Benares is what enabled it to take over. ![]() “There’s no way a bunch of foreign merchants with no military might could take over India. Manhunt by james l swanson7/4/2023 ![]() Simultaneous release with the Morrow hardcover (Reviews, Dec. Born on Lincoln’s birthday, he has studied and collected books, documents, photographs, art, and artifacts from Abraham Lincoln’s lifeand deathsince he was ten years old. And the other major characters-plotters, hunters, politicians, distraught family members-all bring a familiar story to exciting new life. James Swanson is the Edgar Award-winning author of the New York Times bestseller Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer. But his John Wilkes Booth is just about perfect, catching the desperation and increasing lunacy of an actor getting ready for his role in history. Some of the voices work better than others: his Lincoln is perhaps a bit too young and straightforward, especially compared to the darker, richer oratory of actors connected to the role such as Raymond Massey. Thomas's nuanced but never hyped narration serves as a seamless link between the words of the individual characters he brings to life. ![]() This adolescent version of Swanson’s adult novel, Bloody Crimes, describes Lincoln’s journey to the grave and the manhunt for the accused Davis. , but it's the memories of the wide open American country tones of his flexible voice that add immeasurably to his reading of the audio version of Swanson's intensive new book about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and the full-throttle hunt for the conspirators who planned and carried out the deed. Swanson seems to write for the purpose of allowing readers to experience the final journeys of what he believes is the most unique time in history. Thomas has done many solid jobs of acting in all mediums since his television days on The Waltons ![]()

Natsume soseki goodreads7/4/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() His mother died when he was fourteen, and his two eldest brothers died in 1887, intensifying his sense of insecurity. He returned to his biological family and was welcomed by his mother although regarded as a nuisance by his father. A childless couple, Shiobara Masanosuke and his wife, adopted him in 1868 and raised him until the age of nine, when the couple divorced. Having five children and a toddler had created family insecurity and was in some ways a disgrace to the Natsume family. When he was born, he already had five siblings. Sōseki began his life as an unwanted child, born to his mother late in her life, forty years old and his father then fifty-three. He was a descendant of Natsume Yoshinobu, a Sengoku period samurai and retainer of Tokugawa Ieyasu. His father, a powerful and wealthy nanushi, owned all land from Ushigome to Takadanobaba in Edo and handled most civil lawsuits at his doorstep. Natsume Kin'nosuke was born on 9 February 1867 in the town of Babashita, Ushigome, Edo (present Kikui, Shinjuku, Tokyo), the fifth son of village head ( nanushi) Natsume Kohē Naokatsu and his wife Chie. From 1984 until 2004, his portrait appeared on the front of the Japanese 1,000 yen note. He was also a scholar of British literature and writer of haiku, kanshi, and fairy tales. ![]() He is best known around the world for his novels Kokoro, Botchan, I Am a Cat, Kusamakura and his unfinished work Light and Darkness. Throne of midnight7/3/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() When reading Crown of Midnight, I remember thinking how much stronger of a character Celaena was compared to the first book Throne of Glass. But I figured I would put my thoughts into a blog post and really analyze the reading experience of both books to determine which was stronger. ![]() The general consensus seems to be that Heir of Fire is the stronger book, and that it’s when the series really begins to take off. Currently, there are seven books total.Īs of writing this, I’ve just wrapped up Heir of Fire, and when thinking about the book compared to my experience reading Crown of Midnight I have some mixed thoughts.
